About

Kev's love of illustration and painting goes back to his childhood. His older artwork was physically painted with acrylics and watercolors, but, as times and technology has changed, he transitioned to using modern tools, like Adobe Photoshop™ and Illustrator™. Whatever your illustration needs are, Kev will work with you to create an eye-catching piece that will attract attention to your business or project.

Vector Illustration

Using Illustrator, Kev creates these drawings through objects that are built with flat shapes. This means they are easily scalable, without the loss of definition or detail, so you can use them for materials of any size or medium.

Cartoon Illustration

Kev begins his cartoon illustrations with hand-inked line work. He then scans and colors them in Photoshop. The colors are later accentuated with airbrushed shadows, highlights, and blends.

Painted Illustration

Painted illustrations are usually created entirely in Photoshop using digital painting techniques. Although many feature strong line work, they are generally characterized by an illusion of three-dimensional shapes, defined by transitions of light and dark tones

PERSONAL

Kev Brockschmidt, Illustrator, lives south of Seattle in Kent, Washington. He has been producing illustrations and commercial artwork since 1990, after earning a degree in graphic design from Washington State University. Illustration is an appropriate profession for Kev to have chosen, since he was named after "Kevin the Bold," a swashbuckling Irish Shepherd from a comic strip that ran in the 1950s and 1960s.

During his career, Kev has been the creative director of a large Internet company, and he has a long list of freelance clients in the United States and abroad, including Gibbs Smith, Nintendo, Wizards of the Coast, Starlog, Reader's Digest, and King Features Syndicate. Specializing in humorous cartoon illustration that is colorful, dynamic, and sometimes zany, Kev has worked on a variety of projects, like digital art, animation, book design, and website development.

Kev and his wife, Tami, have four children. He has a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo, and he holds a commercial pilot's license. His other hobbies are singing and playing instruments, including guitar (acoustic, electric, and bass), keyboard, and the drums. He and Tami enjoy traveling to tropical locales, like Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Belize.
